Terrorism and cancer

US President Barack Obama, in a recent speech called terrorism a cancer that affected the nations the world over. Some people criticised that such a comparison was not fair and usage of the word "cancer" would have negative impact. Why not we take the speech of the President in a positive sense that as terrorism needs effective control measures, cancer also needs effective preventive and curative control measures?
